Cooperation between Romania and Norway in ANIMEST+

Norway is one of the European countries with a strong film industry, where more than a quarter of all cinema tickets are sold for local productions.
In addition, in the top ten most watched films in cinemas in Norway, three of the productions are Norwegian, demonstrating the impact of measures to support and promote the local film industry.

In the framework of the "ANIMEST+" project, financed by the SEE Grants 2014 - 2021 within the RO-CULTURE Program, the Animest team had the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Norwegian production house KoolProduction, to exchange experience and to consult each other throughout the duration of the project.
During the Animest PLUS conference, on Wednesday, October 11th, I had a meeting with Frank Mosvold → the director of the Norwegian production company Kool Produktion, with a rich portfolio of short films, TV series and feature films.

After four years as a shipbroker in New York and London, Frank Mossvold decided to leave the maritime world to study film in Hollywood. He pursued a unique combination of studies in economics at Babson College in Boston, creative studies at Loyola Marymount University (LA) and a Master of Fine Arts in film production.
At first, he thought he was going to become the next Ingmar Bergman, but he soon learned that producing children's films was a much better endeavor. Since 2005 Mosvold has been busy with animation production in Norway, generating countless creative projects.

Frank Mosvold made every possible mistake in his productions. In his presentation, the Norwegian filmmaker shared his experiences from developing, producing and distributing feature films and TV series so you can avoid making the same mistakes. Frank Mosvold also presented artwork and animation tests of his new film in development: "The Legend of Magnus the Good". Frank Mosvold's presentation was a personal and inspirational talk about the do's and don'ts of animation.

The ANIMEST+ project meets the urgent needs of the animation industry in Romania, of young animators, of informed future moviegoers and of communities lacking in cinematic cultural life. The project is led by the ANIMEST Association in partnership with Kool Produktion, a reputable production house in Oslo, Norway. During 2023, the project proposes a series of activities: education through culture in the Romanian countryside, a summer school for high school students, traveling cinema in Romanian cities and a conference dedicated to professionals and young people interested in the cinematographic industry. The total budget of the project is 979,185.85 lei (199,066.02 euros), of which 952,781.52 lei (193,698.09 euros) is the amount of non-refundable financial support.
